In 2020, I became the Irish-language representative for the Maroon Party for Liberation (MPL), a formation inspired by the revolutionary legacies of the Black Panther Party, the Young Lords, and I Wor Kuen. Working collaboratively with Seán “Mory” from Róg Poets, I initiated the translation of the Black Panther Party Ten-Point Program and the I Wor Kuen Program into Irish (as Gaeilge). These translations were conceived as gifts of cultural and political solidarity — offered to the original movements during Black August, a month commemorating global struggles for liberation. The work forms part of MPL’s ongoing international effort to make these foundational texts available in multiple languages, including Icelandic, Flemish, Dutch, Polish, French, and Arabic. This project reflects my continuing interest in translation as a creative and political act — a way to bridge Irish experience with global movements for justice, self-determination, and community care.
